Super Cassette

Before their viral queery-joy anthem “Be Gay, Do Drugs, Hail Satan” (6M+ Spotify streams) launched them into the public eye — or their indie bop “Sober” made waves on Latin American YouTube — Oakland’s Super Cassette began as the modest bedroom project of frontperson Max Gerlock (they/them).

After teaming up with bassist Devin Hollister and, later, drummer Ramon Esquivel (who took a shot after answering a flyer), the trio evolved into a tightly wound power-pop band known for inventive chord progressions, bittersweet hooks, and sharp, acerbic lyrics.

Super Cassette has toured extensively across the U.S., released their debut album Continue?, and most recently dropped two new singles: the grunge-pop pep talk “Hurts, Don’t It?” and “A Man Was Never One,” an alternate-universe Green Day song about nonbinary identity. With new music on the way, they’re aiming their infectious energy at bigger stages and wilder crowds.
